Hey there, here’s a story to ponder;
“A lion is fully capable of capturing, killing, and eating a field mouse. But it turns out that the energy required to do so exceeds the caloric content of the mouse itself. So a lion that spent its day hunting and eating field mice would slowly starve to death. A lion can’t liveoff field mice. A lion needs antelope. Antelope are big animals. They take more speed and strength to capture and kill, but once killed, they provide a feast for the lion and her pride. A lion can live a long and happy life on a diet of antelope.”
The distinction is important.
Are you spending all your time and exhausting all your energy catching field mice? In the short term it might give you a nice, rewarding feeling. But in the long run you’re going to die. So ask yourself at the end of the day, “Did I spend today chasing mice or hunting antelope?”
It’s really quite important to be aware of the choices you are making; to understand the consequences associated with them. Chasing field mice can be rewarding, make you feel good, make you look busy and successful in the eyes of others but ultimately be detrimental to you and your wellbeing.
SO ASK YOURSELF THIS:
- What are the activities I am engaging in that are ‘chasing field mice’?
- What are the activities that are not providing me long term sustenance?
- What activities are my ‘antelopes’?
- What things could I put a little more time and effort into but would actually provide me with many more benefits in the long run?
As I’m sure you’re painfully aware; we have limited resources, the two biggest of those are time and energy. Where we choose to direct our time and energy is vitally important for the ability to increase our mental fitness. The conscious and well informed choice of where that time an energy goes is the determining factor in our overall success.
I want you to be successful. That’s why this is worth pondering…

My Song Of The Week For You:
Refused – New Noise (from The Shape Of Punk to Come)
No idea who looks at my song recommendations but here is a random one from my youth. I still like plenty of ‘shouty’ music as my wife calls it.
