FLOURISH 006 – How To Become Lucky

| Sent Wednesday 26th of July

Hey there, here’s a question;

Are you lucky?

You’ve probably heard some people griping about how others are just ‘luckier’ than they are. But let’s strip away the fluff and get real for a minute. What the hell is luck anyway? Is it a divine gift sprinkled onto a chosen few, or is it just utter nonsense?

Well, according to psychologist Richard Wiseman, luck might be more within your control than you’d imagine.

In a cunning little experiment, Wiseman asked participants to go through a newspaper and count the photographs. Easy, right? But here’s where it gets interesting. He snuck in a message halfway through the paper that read, “Stop counting, there are 43 photographs in this newspaper.” And this wasn’t some microscopic, easy-to-miss footnote. It was a whacking great message, spanning half a page with over two inches high letters.

Now, you’d think anyone with half a brain would spot it. But, astonishingly, the people who considered themselves ‘unlucky’ missed it, while the ones that identified before the experiment as ‘lucky’ spotted it.

Imagine the consequences that can have on your life. Life is about spotting opportunities and then capitalising on them. The people who believed they were lucky did just that, those that didn’t missed out.

 So What Gives?

Well, it turns out that those who CONSIDER themselves lucky are generally more open to opportunities and therefore more likely to spot them. It’s not about having some magical leprechaun on your shoulder. It’s all about your mindset.

So, luck isn’t something you’re born with, and it’s not some mystical force. It’s an attitude, a perception, a way of interacting with the world. And here’s the kicker: you can train yourself to be luckier.

Here’s The Challenge:

This week, I challenge you to adopt a “lucky mindset.” Wake up each day and tell yourself, “I’m lucky. Good stuff is going to happen to me today.” Keep track of everything good that happens – from finding a coin on the footpath to landing a major business deal.

Because here’s the thing: luck isn’t just about what happens to you. It’s about how you perceive what happens to you. So let’s cut the nonsense about luck being some divine gift, and start creating our own damn luck.

Get out there and spot your opportunities,

Much love,
